Chitragam Shopian residents demand potable water

Shopian:- The residents of Tengpora and Bonpora in Chitragam tehsil of south Kashmir’s Shopian district are facing shortage of potable water since years, locals alleged Saturday.

The residents of the area said that Chitragam which consists of thousands of households is facing shortage of water since last several years but no attention is being given towards it.

They said that water to most of the village is being supplied from Habdipora village but these two mohallas are yet to be connected with the scheme.

They said that despite falling close to the tehsil office, they have been neglected so far due to which they are suffering.

Aijaz Ahmad, a local resident said that most people of the area are forced to consume contaminated water due to which they are facing lot of health issues.

He said that the whole village has been connected with the scheme but due to unknown reasons, they haven’t connected these two mohallas with the scheme.

Zahoor Ahmad, another local resident said that they are going to other mohallas to fetch potable water.

He said that government on the one hand is claiming that every household is being given potable water but on the other hand, areas like Tengpora and Bonpora are being neglected.

The locals said that they have brought the issue into the notice of higher ups several times, but to no avail,

They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, an official of the department said that initially some locals had objected to the laying of pipes through their land.

He assured that work of installing pipeline will resume soon and the area will get potable water supply.
