Sewerage waste management shed turned into garbage dumping site, allege locals
Anantnag: The Sewerage waste management shed in Shoul area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district has been turned into a dumping site due to which people are suffering, locals alleged Friday.
The locals from the Shoul area said that Rural Development department had constructed the shed close to National Highway 44 where garbage is being thrown but the same isn’t being cleared.
They said that the garbage put there isn’t being segregated nor is it being removed from the area.
Zahoor Ahmad, a local resident said that garbage is attracting dogs in huge numbers due to which people are unable to move easily from the area.
He said that the foul smell coming from the garbage is forcing people passing close to the shed to cover their faces and nose.
Shabir Ahmad, another local said that the whole garbage of the area is being dumped near the shed and it is lying scattered all over.
“If the government is really working on ‘Swach Bharat Mission’ and ‘Schweta Hi Sewa’ then they need to fix these issues immediately,” he added.
Locals living close to the shed said that they are suffering due to the foul smell coming from the site besides that their children are unable to roam freely.
They said that the government must clear this site on a regular basis or it must be closed once for all.
The locals said that they have brought the issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
They requested higher ups especially DC Anantnag and ACD Anantnag to look into the matter at an earliest so that the demand of the locals is addressed.
