Rakh, Zahid Bagh Pulwama residents demand upgradation of water supply scheme
Pulwama: The residents of Rakh and Zahid Bagh villages in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have demanded up-gradation of water supply scheme in the area.
The residents of the village said that a water supply scheme for the area was started around 12 years back which was to cater to around 250 households but later one more village was added to the scheme.
They said that since 2014 some villages were getting water from the water supply, however, dozens of householders were yet to be connected with the scheme.
They said that recently many households were connected with the scheme but now the scheme is unable to cater to the whole population.
Ghulam Mohiuddin, a resident of Zahid Bagh said that they were recently connected with the scheme but the availability of potable water has remained a distant dream for them.
He said that scheme that was constructed for 250 households has to cater to 500 households due to which it has become over burdened.
He said that existing source must be kept for Darbagh village that is part of Shopian district while a new pump must be installed as new source for Zahidbagh and Rakh villages so that all can get proper drinking water supply.
Mohammad Yousuf, another local resident said that those villagers who are connected with the scheme are also getting contaminated water as water isn’t being filtered properly despite authorities claiming that the filtration plant is functioning.
The locals said that they have brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter and take steps for having a separate water source for Zahidbagh and Rakh villages.
They have sought the attention of Deputy Commissioner Pulwama in the regard.
