Shopian woman starts another unit after establishing two earlier
‘Three units generate employment opportunities for one dozen people’
Shopian: A woman from Shopian has become an inspiring figure in her community by launching a broom-making unit, providing employment to around a dozen people.
Syed Meema Akhter (30) daughter of Badru din Shah resident of Chidren Shopian, a village close to SIDCO Lassipora who has been associated with NRLM since 2018 has already started a poultry farm and a mushroom unit before starting another unit where she is manufacturing brooms.
Meema while talking to ‘Kashmir Vision’ said that she came to know about self help groups in 2018 and she joined it instantly.
She said that after working for around a year or two with NRLM, she managed to get a loan on which she was able to start a poultry farm which is now run by her brother.
Meema said that later she started a Mushroom unit where she is mostly working herself and now she has recently started a broom making unit.
Meema said that currently 10 local villagers are working at her broom unit in her locality and she hopes that there will be good demand for the brooms they make.
“I am determined to earn livelihood for myself and create employment opportunities for others as well,” she said.
Meema said that after completing her graduation she was dreaming to become a successful entrepreneur and NRLM has given wings to her dreams.
She added that all women can come forward and make a start so as to create an employment opportunity for themselves and others as well.
She said that women shouldn’t remain confined to the four walls of their homes but should come forward and contribute in their own towards the welfare of the society.
She said that they must work to become to financially independent as with financial independence they can achieve their goals.
