12 years on, water supply scheme constructed at Rs 2 Cr yet to be made functional
Pulwama: The residents of the Chewa Ullar Village in Tral hamlet of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are up in arms against the PHE department for failing to provide potable water to them.
The residents of the area said that they a water supply scheme in the area was sanctioned around 12 years before and was completed as well but it is lying defunct as the water of the well wasn’t good for consumption.
In absence of any potable water facility, they are forced to drink contaminated water due to which water borne diseases can break out any time in the area, they said.
They added that their children and elderly people often fall sick and the reason behind it was the contaminated water what they are using.
12 years have passed since the water supply scheme was started and completed but after the water of the well wasn’t found for consumption, govt assured that new well will be constructed but nothing has been done as of now, said Mehraj Ahmad a local resident.
He said that government is claiming that every household is being connected with Jal Jeevan mission but area has been waiting since decade and their dreams are yet to come true.
We have been facing problems for years and brought this issue in notice of concerned authorities dozens of times but to avail, said Mohammad Sultan, another resident.
He said that new water supply must be made functional at the earliest so that locals won’t suffer anymore.
He said that even those who have donated land for the scheme are yet to receive compensation.
Locals said that they are brought this issue in notice of higher ups several times but without assurances nothing has been done.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that they won’t suffer anymore.
