Scheme to be commissioned this month only: Executive Engineer
Pulwama: The residents of Sethargund Qazigund village of Kakapora hamlet in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district alleged that they are facing shortage of potable water in the area for the last several years now.
Accusing the authorities of ignoring their plights repeatedly, the residents demanded immediate redressal of their genuine grievances.
The residents said that acute water scarcity has hit their village since last several years while the officials are paying no heed over their sufferings.
Ishrat Ahmad, a local resident said that since last three decades they have been facing a shortage of potable water and they are yet to get proper drinking water facilities.
He added that in absence of potable water, they are forced to drink contaminated water due to which people mainly elderly and children often fall ill.
Farooq Ahmad, another local said that on the one hand the government is putting emphasis on cleanliness but on the other we are forced to drink contaminated water.
He said that there were several tube wells in the area and they were managing things but due to persistent dry spell, the water level in these wells has got down due to which they are unable to get water from them.
He said that authorities are risking their lives by forcing them to drink contaminated water.
The locals said that they have brought the issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
They said that water tanker is being sent to the area which fails to cater to the whole area .
They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, Executive Engineer Jal Shakti department Pulwama, Nisar Ahmad said that a new water scheme for the village has been sanctioned on which work is nearing completion.
He said that very soon the whole works will be completed and we are expecting to commission it this month only.
He said water tankers are being sent to their area on every alternate day so that people won’t suffer.
