Sonasamil Pulwama residents raise concerns over dumping of garbage in Sasa Ara
Pulwama: The residents of Sonasamil area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are up in arms against the rural development department for dumping garbage in Sasa Ara.
The residents of the area said that this practice has not only led to environmental degradation but has also posed serious health risks to the local population.
Basit Ahmad, a local resident said that the garbage of the whole area is being dumped in Sasa Ara that attracts stray dogs thereby making the life of people miserable.
He said that people of the areas especially children are unable to come out of their houses due to the growing number of stray dogs in the area.
He further added that Nallah Sasa Ara was once known for its pristine waters and natural beauty but due to official apathy it has been turned into a dumping ground.
Zahoor Ahmad, another local resident said that government on the one hand is giving slogans of Swetchta hi Sewa but on the other hand, they have been dumping waste in Sasa Ara.
He said that water of this Ara was being used for drinking purposes but it has been polluted by official apathy and some locals are also responsible for the same.
Locals said that they are unable to move out of their houses due to foul smell coming out of the garbage.
They said that they have brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest and take immediate steps in this regard.
