Pulwama residents demand completion of slaughter house

Pulwama: The residents of Pulwama town in south Kashmir have demanded completion of a slaughter house in the area.

People selling meat in Pulwama town said that meat consumption continues to rise and the necessity of a slaughter house becomes all the more important.

They said that slaughter house is important in efficiently processing meat with ethical and environmental considerations kept in mind.

They said that work on slaughter house was started in the town few years back but it was left mid way.

Ghulam Hassan Khan, a local resident said that construction of a slaughter house for proper waste management is of utmost importance.

He said that they were hopeful that the slaughter house would have been completed by now, but due to unknown reasons it has been not been completed.

The locals said that with growing population implementing eco friendly technologies and waste management systems can minimize the environmental impact.

They further added that slaughter house remains a viral component of the meat production chain and there is immediate need of a slaughter house in the area.

They said that they have brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.

They said that the slaughter house must be complete at an earliest so that waste can be managed in a proper way without attracting dogs.

The locals alleged that in absence of slaughter house, herds of dogs can be seen around meat shops thereby creating problems for the people.

Meanwhile, an official of MC Pulwama said that work on the slaughter house is expected to resume soon and will be completed at all costs.
