Kulgam:-The residents of Kund area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district are up in arms against the local municipal authorities for failing to replace the faulty street lights for a long time now.

The residents of Kund area said that the faulty street lights are causing inconvenience to the people during the evening and night hours.

They said that most of the street lights in Nowbugh, Waltangoo, Razloo, Kraloo, Orial, Batengoo, Nageenpora, Kanchloo and its adjacent areas are lying defunct since a long time.

Mashkoor Ahmad, a local resident said that the lights were installed under DDC fund and soon after installing they developed some snags and haven’t been repaired yet.

He said that these lights are of utmost importance especially during late evening and early morning hours.

Javid Ahmad, another local resident said that due to fear of stray dogs, people fear to go out of their lawns in morning and evening hours but if lights will be operational, they won’t face such problems.

He said that people going to mosque for prayers also have been facing problems due to faulty street lights.

The locals said that they have brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities but despite their assurances nothing has been done as of now.

They requested concerned authorities to look into the matter and take immediate steps in this regard.

Meanwhile, an official said that they have already repaired the few lights recently and other faulty lights are also being made functional.
