Police arrests drug peddlers in Kulgam, Sopore

Srinagar: Police arrested drug peddlers in Kulgam and Sopore recovered huge quantity of contraband substance from their possession, a police spokesman said Friday.

He said that acting on specific information regarding hoarding of contraband substance in Shopping Complex at Nipora, a special police team raided the suspected place (Shopping Complex at Nipora) in presence of Executive Magistrate Wanpoh and recovered 30.8Kgs of Poppy Straw like substance.

Besides, an accused identified as Mohammad Ashraf Khanday son of Ghulam Ahmad Khanday resident of Nippora was also arrested on the spot. The accused has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 196/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Qazigund and further investigation has been initiated.

In another such police action a drug peddler was arrested in Sopore in north Kashmir, the spokesman added.

He said that acting on specific information received from reliable sources regarding marketing of drugs in Model Town D, police assisted by Executive Magistrate Tehsildar and other police officers/officials including IC PP Bus Stand was able to recover 31 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from the specific spot, however the accused managed to escape from the spot. After strenuous efforts, the accused namely Owais Mushtaq Hakeem son of Mushtaq Ahmad Hakeem resident of Model Town D was arrested.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 177/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Sopore and further investigation has been initiated, the spokesman added.
