Sangam- Lassipora road in shambles, allege locals
Pulwama: The dilapidated Sangam -Lassipora Pulwama road is taking a toll on the commuters from the last one year, locals alleged Saturday.
The commuters and drivers from various areas of Pulwama said that the bad condition of road has resulted in many problems including an increase in travel time, water-logging and risk of accidents besides damage to the vehicles.
The residents of the area up in arms against the authorities for failing to provide better road connectivity in the area despite being one of the main roads of the area.
Abdul Hamid, a local resident said the road from Lassipora to Sangam which connects the area with the Srinagar highway is in pathetic condition for the past many years.
He said that whenever it is rains for a few minutes people are unable to walk on the road as it gets inundated.
“The road looks at many places as if it has never been macadamized and we fail to understand why the concerned department is leaving this important stretch without black topping,” he added.
The locals said that the condition of the road is getting worse with every passing day but authorities are acting as mute spectators.
“Every day we lose time due to the traffic jams, the situation becomes annoying, particularly, during peak hours,” they said.
“Despite passing of years, the concerned authorities have failed to repair this vital road connecting SIDCO lassipora with national highway.
“Due to dilapidated roads, we face problems to venture out. Potholes on the roads have damaged our vehicles,” a cab driver said.
“Our expenditure on vehicles has increased due to the pathetic condition of the road, he said.
The people of this area have also urged the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha and Deputy commissioner Pulwama to direct the concerned department to macadamize the road at the earliest.
