Authorities establish ticket counter at Eco Park Shikargah, locals allege lack of facilities
Pulwama: Authorities in south Kashmir’s Tral area of Pulwama district established a ticket counter in eco-park Shikargah without any facilities, locals alleged Tuesday.
The residents along with local tourists visiting the area said that the government has only fenced the park and started taking Rs 25 per person as entry ticket in the park.
They termed it as injustice as there are no facilities as of now, saying that first some facilities should have been created for the visitors and then the entry ticket cold have been started.
Junaid Ahmad, a local social activist said that they are thankful to the government for taking up the development process of the neglected Shikargah area.
He, however, added that the establishment of a ticket counter much before the facilities have been made available is sheer injustice.
He said the government must keep facilities like seating arrangements, water, rest and wash rooms besides beautifying the park and then the entry ticket deserved to be charged from the visitors.
The residents demanded immediate revocation of the decision, arguing that it is unjust and negatively impacts local visitors who have traditionally enjoyed the park without any entry fee.
They said that somehow more people had started visiting the area but the imposition of a fee is an unnecessary burden and discourages people from visiting the park.
They urged authorities to reconsider the decision and give free entry at the ticket counter to restore the park’s accessibility to all till the park will be fully developed.
