Shikroo a breathtaking site in Shopian awaits government’s attention

Shopian: Shikroo Keller a breathtaking site in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, despite being one of the best tourist locations, faces a significant lack of basic infrastructure, locals alleged Tuesday.

The area, part of the larger Keller Block, is known for its stunning natural beauty and potential for tourism but struggles with infrastructure issues, they added.

The residents of the area said that the area has immense tourism potential but it has been neglected.

They said that the government has been announcing that they will bring this area on the tourism map but on the ground nothing is being done.

The tourism potential of the Keller is immense, with attractions like the Mughal Road that is close to the picturesque landscapes and dense forests.

Hilal Ahmad, a local resident said that people in the area belong to financially weaker section and if the area will be developed, they too can earn their livelihood and it will help them to overcome poverty.

He said that the area has very huge Tourism potential but authorities need to create infrastructure to attract the tourists.

Tabassum Ahmad, another local resident said that for day and for trekking purposes locals from different districts have been visiting here but the number of non locals visiting here is very little yet as they get dismayed due to lack of basic facilities.

He said that there is a need to keep water, electricity and night stay facilities available in the area so that it can attract tourists.

The locals said that they have brought these issues into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.

They requested concerned authorities to look into the matter as soon as possible and take immediate steps in this regard
