Infrastructure challenges
Letter to the Editor
The roof collapse at Delhi’s busy airport during record rainfall isn’t just a tragic event but a stark symptom of India’s broader infrastructure challenges.
This incident, amidst a backdrop of similar failures nationwide such as bridge collapses and monsoon-related havoc exposes systemic flaws in planning, execution, and maintenance across the country.
The issue goes beyond weather; inadequate drainage systems in rapidly urbanizing areas exacerbate flooding, turning urban growth into a hazard. The rush to complete projects, often timed with elections, prioritizes speed over quality, compromising infrastructure integrity.
Infrastructure development must prioritize public safety over political expediency, ensuring long-term sustainability.
