KV impact: Govt to restore steel plate Girder Bridge in Astanpora Pulwama

Pulwama: The district administration in south Kashmir’s is going to restore the bridge on Litter Astanpora road at village Astanpora in Pulwama district.

An official said that deputy commissioner Pulwama Dr Basharat Qayoom has accorded sanction for restoration of 1×17 metre span steel plate girder bridge.

He said that Rs 3.70 lacs have been sanctioned in favour of Superindenting Engineer PW (R&B) circle Pulwama under district capex budget 2024-25 under R&B sector.

The official said that work on the bridge is expected to start soon and locals will heave a sigh of relief.

Notably, ‘Kashmir Vision’ had carried a story through which the residents of Astanpora in Pulwama district raised alarms over the unsafe conditions of the bridge which is putting commuters’ lives at significant risk.

The residents of the area said that the plates of the bridge at Astanpora Litter have been damaged at several spots as a result the public is facing huge inconveniences.

They said that the bridge got damaged years back and damage level increases with each passing day but it hasn’t been repaired as of now.

The locals said that the bridge is unsafe and can prove fatal if immediate steps are not taken.

They added that school going children too are facing immense risk as many vans and vehicles carrying them pass through the same bridge.

The locals had said that since last one year they had informed the government authorities several times but nothing was done.

Meanwhile, the locals have thanked Deputy Commissioner Pulwama for taking cognizance of the issue and requested him to direct the concerned authorities to start work on it as soon as possible
