Kulgam woman helps her family to earn livelihood with the help of UMEED

Kulgam: A young woman from south Kashmir’s Kulgam district has been helping her family to earn their livelihood with the help of Umeed.

Najma Jan (25) daughter of Abdul Gaffar Sheikh a resident of Katrooso area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district has helped her brother to purchase an auto and her brother in law to start a furniture shop.

Najma said that she came to know about SHGs a few years back and she joined it instantly.

She said that after working with SHGs for some time, she managed to get a loan and she helped her brother to get an auto on which he is earning a livelihood now.

She said that later she managed to help her brother in law to start a furniture shop on which he is earning his livelihood very well now.

She said that under Umeed she got help for herself and her relatives as well and she did it by helping his brother and brother in law and both are earning their livelihood and it was possible only because of Umeed.

She thanked all the officials of the NRLM department for their support and guidance and helping rural women to come out of poverty.

Najma said that women folk who become part of the SHGs have been yielding good benefits from the Umeed scheme as the scheme has helped thousands of rural women to earn their livelihood.

She advised all those who are yet to become part of any SHG to join it and yield the benefits.

She while advising the women of J&K to take benefits of UMEED scheme and join SHGs in their areas, said that the UMEED has given her a name and a unique identity, making her independent.

She said that women shouldn’t waste their time only after government jobs but they should join SHGs and start small businesses and if they will work hard, they will definitely become independent and live a very happy life.
