Semthan Anantnag residents demand better irrigation facilities

Anantnag: The residents of Semthan area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have demanded better irrigation facilities for their paddy land.
The residents of the area said that they have been suffering in absence of better irrigation facilities for their paddy land.
They said that they have repeatedly requested authorities to clean the canal ahead of the agricultural season but that wasn’t done.
Abdul Salam Bhat, a local resident said that they have been using money from their own pockets to clean the canal every year.
This year again we have also arranged a machine on our own to clean the canal so that water can reach the land, he said.
Ghulam Hassan, another local said that the pump station meant to pump in water to the canal develops snags frequently due to which they have been suffering.
He said that the majority of the farmers are yet to plant paddy saplings while those who have planted are suffering in absence of proper irrigation facilities.
The locals said that they have brought this issue in notice of the concerned authorities several times but to no avail.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest and take immediate steps in this regard so that people will feel some relief.
