Anantnag: The residents of Moman village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district are up in arms against the PDD for installing a transformer along a road, which according to them is posing threat to the locals.

Locals said that the electric transformer has been installed close to the ground along a road making it dangerous as short circuits near the transformer are common.

“The transformer has been installed very close to the ground with low-lying wires posing a grave threat to lives of people, particularly children,” said Kifayat Ahmad, a local resident.

He said that a school is also close to the transformer and parents have to accompany their wards to the school so that they remain safe while crossing the road where the transformer is installed.

“We have pointed this out to PDD officials several times, but nothing has been done,” said Aamir Ahmad, another local resident.

He said that any untoward incident can take place anytime if authorities won’t take cognizance immediately.

The locals said that this transformer has naked wire and conductors, which are easily accessible by the human beings and children can unknowingly touch it

“This transformer can prove fatal anytime as it is close to the road and ground from where hundreds are going each day,” they said.

They added that power infrastructure is weak in the area and needs to be upgraded as instead of poles wires have been connected with trees.

They added that despite bringing this issue into the notice of higher ups several ups no step has been taken on the ground, they said.

They requested concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest so that any eventuality may be avoided.

Meanwhile, an official of the PDD said that he has already sought a report from ground  staff in this regard and all possible steps for the safety of the locals will be taken.
