Anantnag: The residents of Panzath area of Qazigund in south Kashmir on Saturday said that they have voted so that the area witnesses promotion of various spots as tourism destinations.

The voters of the area said that they voted for the promotion as tourism sector in the area as so far only Panzath has been designated as a Tourism destination but it is yet to see required development and promotion.

Mushtaq Ahmad, a local voter said that Panzath Village is home to the renowned ‘Panzath Nag’ spring, which has garnered attention due to the Panzath Fishing Festival.

He said that Prime Minister Modi also highlighted this spring in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio program.

With its mythological significance documented in the Nilamata Purana and Rajatarangini, the spring holds cultural and historical importance, he said.

‘Designating Panzath as a tourist destination would not only recognize its heritage but also promote tourism in the region, creating employment opportunities for our youth. Furthermore, the spring serves as a vital water source for approximately two dozen villages and hosts functional government trout rearing units,” he added.

Muneer Ahmad, another voter said that their village boasts a primary school established in 1905, which was subsequently upgraded to a middle school in 1962 and a high school in 2005.

He said that despite our growing population, our students face hazardous conditions while commuting, having to navigate both the railway line and the Jammu-Srinagar highway.

To ensure the safety and accessibility of education for our youth, we earnestly request the government to elevate our high school to a government higher secondary institution, he said.

The locals said they hope that their concerns will receive prompt attention and necessary action will be initiated immediately.

They said that they have voted so that they can get desired results in this regard as their repeated requests have gone unheard so far.

They hoped that the winning candidate will raise voice for promotion of Tourism sector in the area along with upgradation of schools and other basic infrastructure here.
