Football stadium Bajwani Tral is in dilapidated condition, allege locals
Pulwama: The football stadium situated in Bajwani Tral area of Pulwama district continues to remain devoid of basic facilities due to which athletes have been suffering there, locals alleged Friday.
The athletes from the area said that government claims that they have spent around 1.25 crore on the civil and other works in the stadium but on ground it seems just few lakh have been spent as all the major facilities are missing here.
They said that the stadium was in better condition before the works were started on improving it but now it has been left in dilapidated condition and the athletes are unable to practice here.
Syed Aadil, a local athlete said that work on the football stadium has been left midway as it needs immediate leveling, space for dug out, seating arrangements and washroom facilities.
He said that lakhs have been spent on flood lights but they aren’t being used as of now.
Mudasir Ahmad, another athlete said that several time officials from the administration visited the stadium and assured that the ground shall be transformed into a proper stadium, but the sorry state of sports infrastructure here is such that even being a single such ground in the area, it has been neglected, he said.
He said that athletes practicing here have been suffering injuries and players now prefer to go to other places for practice.
The athletes said the government must investigate the amount spent on the ground as condition of the ground has further deteriorated after repair work was taken up.
They said that due to lack of leveling, players most often suffer injuries while playing at the stadium.
The players said that if this ground will be developed on modern lines, it would help players to nourish their talent and prove their mettle at mega stages.
The locals said that they have brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities but so far nothing has changed on ground.
They urged the concerned authorities to develop this ground at an earliest so that youth will be engaged in sports activities and will not fall prey to drugs.
