Man-Animal Conflict: J&K wildlife Dept organizes two days technical workshop, training programme

Sopore: The department of Wildlife Protection, J&K launched a two days Workshop cum Training Programme on Human-Wildlife Conflict held at the office of Conservator of Forests North Circle Mazbugh here in north Kashmir’s Sopore Town on Thursday.

Experts of Wildlife and expert trackers delivered Speech and imparted training on the first day to the front line staff of the Forest Department Territorial, Forest Protection Force and Wildlife Department training them to tackle the animal intrusions in populated areas.

Intesar Suhail, ACF, Wildlife Warden, North division, delivered the welcome address, extending greetings to all dignitaries, guests, and participant trainees.

The participants include frontline staff of Kashmir region comprising of forest territorial, Forest Protection Force and Wildlife department that includes Vivek Verma (IFS) Conservator of Forest North Circle Sopore, Satender Maurya (Divisional Forest Officer JV Forest Division Baramulla, Intesar Suhail (Wildlife Warden North Divison), Dr. Shabir Ahmad (Superintendent Veterinary hospital Baramulla, Pradeep Chandra Wahull (IFS) Regional Wildlife Warden Kashmir, Region Srinagar and Panel of national experts Ashish Dasgupta Ex-Member State Board for Wildlife and his expert team from Himachal Pradesh, renowned for their expertise in Man-wildlife conflict management.

Intesar Suhail, also provided an overview of the historical and statistical data related to human-wildlife conflicts in the region. Pradeepchandra Wahule, IFS, Regional Wildlife Warden, Kashmir, emphasized the significance of such training programs in enhancing technical skills to address wildlife issues effectively.

On the first day of training programme technical sessions and interactive workshop on mitigation of Human Wildlife Conflict were held with thrust areas like over view of Human Wildlife Conflict in Kashmir province with specific reference to leopards and bears, overall perspective of Man-Wildlife Conflict and mythology thereof.

Tracing of Wild animals and identification of Pugmarks and scats and other indirect evidence was also given.

On 2nd day of training session, hands on training of Rescue equipments and acclimatization with various rescue gears and equipments were to be given to protection forces of the department.
