Two terrorists dead, 2 Army personnel injured as Sopore gunbattle
Srinagar: Two terrorists were killed while as many Army personnel got injured on Friday as the gunbattle between the terrorists and security forces continued for the second day in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said.
The encounter began on Thursday at Check Mohalla Nowpora in the Sopore area of north Kashmir. After the night’s lull, a fresh exchange of firing took place on Friday morning, they said.
Two terrorists have been killed so far, according to the officials.
Two army personnel injured in the gunfight have been shifted to a hospital for treatment, they said.
A civilian was also injured near the site of the encounter on Thursday.
Meanwhile, police said that one of the two slain terrorists has been identified as Saifullah and the identity of second one is being ascertained.
Talking to reporters, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir V K Bhirdi said that two terrorists were killed in Nowpora encounter.
“As per the documents recovered from the slain, one terrorist has been identified as Saifullah, ” he said, adding that identity of second one is being ascertained.
He said the successful operation reflects the alertness of security forces ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in Kashmir.
“We are committed to provide safe and secure environment for Lok Sabha polls,” he said. The IGP said that arms, ammunition and incriminating material has been recovered from the slain terrorists.
