Athletes demand facilities, proper renovation of sports stadium Khandaypora

Say funds should be utilised in proper manner

Pulwama:The residents of Khandaypora Awantipora area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are demanding proper renovation of the sports stadium in the area.

The athletes from the area said that sports ground was in good condition buut the authorities decided to renovate it but instead of renovation its condition has worsened.

They said that they were hopeful that the authorities will completely renovate the stadium but it’s condition has deteriorated leaving the players dejected.

 

Saqib Ahmad, a local resident said that they were using the playing area but waterlogging was the main issue following which the authorities were requested to renovate it.

He said that government should have focused on making this stadium feasible for playing but its condition has gone worse as the filing wasn’t done properly and the material sed was substandard.

Mudasir Ahmad, another local said that stadium must be renovated based on modern requirements so that athletes can play there.

Athletes said that the valley is facing the nuisance of drug addiction which is due to lack of recreational opportunities provided to our youth and development of such grounds are very important to keep them away from drugs.

They said that they have to visit other places for practice as they are unable to practice here due to the dilapidated condition of the ground now.

They said that on several occasions the officials visited the ground and assured that the ground shall be developed on modern lines, but that isn’t happening on ground.

They said government must give proper attention towards the stadium so that players can feel the difference.

They said that due to uneven eveling, players will suffer injuries while playing at the stadium.

They urged the concerned authorities to develop this ground at an earliest so that youth will be engaged in sports activities and will not fall prey to drugs.

Meanwhile, an official said that work on the ground is still going on while assuring that it will be developed on modern lines.
