Shopian: The residents of Darbagh Watchi area of Zainapora sub division of south Kashmir’s Shopian district have demanded construction of a bridge over Ranbiara nallah to get connected with Rakh Pulwama.

The residents of area said that they are facing a lot of problems in the absence of bridge there as a make shift bridge gets washed away frequently.

They said every year makeshift arrangements are being made but every year it gets washed away due to which people of area are suffering as it is the shortest path for locals to get connected with Anantnag Pulwama and Srinagar as well.

They said that elderly people, women and children are facing lot of problems in absence of a concrete bridge and it becomes too risky to travel over the bridge when it rains and the stream underneath is filled with gushing water.

Gulzar Ahmad, a local resident, said that they are facing a lot of problems in the absence of bridge, especially during emergency situations.

He said that instead of making makeshift bridges, government must construct a concrete bridge and provide a onetime solution to the problems face by the people.

The locals said that if the authorities fail to address the issue this time around, the area may witness a tragedy as we saw this week in Srinagar.

Since last several years, every authority has been contacted but nothing has been done on ground, the locals said.

“Government has spent lakhs in different works everywhere but have failed in constructing a concrete bridge here,”Mohammad Jabbar, another local said.

He said that a makeshift bridge is being constructed but it is very risky to cross the Ranbiara over it especially for school going children.

The locals said that they have knocked on the doors of every government authority to get their issue redressed, but to no avail.

“We have high hopes on LG Manoj Sinha and DC Shopian and Pulwama that they will look into it and direct the concerned authorities to sanction the construction of a concrete bridge over the nallah,” they added.
