Pulwama: The residents of Padgampora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama have demanded enhancement of power infrastructure as they claim that dangling electric wires tied with trees, andold poles are posing grave threat to the lives of people as well as to their property.

Residents of Dangerpora and Padgampora area alleged that they are living under constant fear due to low lying electric wires tied with trees in their villages since decades but no attention is being given towards it.

They said that the power infrastructure in terms of transformers has been enhanced but there is a need to upgrade transmission lines and electric poles.

Rashid Hussain, a local resident said that the transmission lines touch roofs of houses and trees on roads posing risk to life and property.

He said that the lines are very weak and snap frequently thereby risking lives of people.

“We have been repeatedly requesting the concerned department to replace the dangling and damaged electric wires and poles but our pleas fell on deaf ears,” he said.

Showkat Ahmad, another local said that despite raising this issue in all the ‘back to Village programmes’ repeatedly nothing has been done as of now in this regard.

“Most of LT wires in our village have been tied with trees in the absence of poles due to which the wires are low lying and very weak as well which often get damaged,” he said.

Locals said that they have repeatedly brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.

They said that despite repeated hikes in tariff they have been paying monthly fee on time but they are receiving unscheduled power.

They requested higher ups to look into the matter and take immediate steps in this regard so that people won’t suffer anymore.
