Vital bridge collapses in Shopian, locals demand its repair

Shopian: A vital bridge connecting Pulwama with Shopian in Trenz area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district has collapsed even as locals demand immediate repair works on the bridge.

The locals from the area said that the shortest route for several villages of both districts has been cut off due to which people from both districts are facing huge inconvenience.

They said that this route was even used by people of Kulgam via Imamsahib but they too will face problems now.

Asif Ahmad, a local resident of the Trenz area said that the bridge collapsed on Wednesday leaving the people in lurch.

He said that there is an immediate need of repairing the bridge so that people won’t have to suffer for long.

Locals said that Deputy Commissioner Shopian visited the spot and assured that after proper assessment the bridge would be repaired within ten days or the process for construction of a new one will be taken up.

They said that the admin should take immediate steps to repair the bridge as thousands of people are using it for daily commuting.
