Tangmarg: The villagers of Bahrampora, Kunzer area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday expressed resentment over the lack of will on the part of the administration to repair the non-functional of drainage system in the village.
Inhabitants residing in the village alleged that the authorities are not speeding up the process of ensuring a proper drainage system from Wani Mohalla to Ganie Mohalla, which has created immense hardships to them over the last 16 years.
As per locals, the damaged drain has been blocked by household waste, polythene, and plastic waste.
“During rainfall, the lanes of the village submerge in water, thus causing inconvenience to the local residents,” they said.
“The drainage system has been in bad shape for a long time and all the storm water gets accumulated in the drain for a long time, which produces a foul smell and causes difficulties for the people while they move around,” Hashim Ahmad, a local resident said.
Another local said that they have approached the BDO office Wailoo, Kunzer several times but so far nothing has been done.
Pertinently, in April last year the concerned authorities informed the villagers that the repair work will start by September but till date nothing has happened on ground.
Meanwhile, locals appealed the Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, Minga Sherpa and Block Development Officer, Wailoo to look into the issue and issue orders to repair the drain immediately.
