Famous Batnag spring in Tral losing its sheen, locals allege neglect
Pulwama: The famous Batnag spring in Tral townhip of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district has been losing its glory due to official apathy and is at the verge of extermination, locals alleged Tuesday.
They said that Batnag spring was known for fresh water and the whole area was using its for drinking purposes, however, the spring has been facing pollution during the last two decades.
Locals said that people in the area were dependent on this spring for getting drink water however, if efforts are not taken to conserve it at an earliest they will lose this precious water source.
“Heaps of garbage and polythene are lying around the spring and there is no one to take care of these water bodies,” said Mohammad Ramzan, a local resident.
Batnag spring was known for fresh water and fishes, however, due to pollution, their number has drastically reduced and authorities are watching as mute spectators, he said
Locals said that Municipal committee Tral generates good revenue from varios services offered to the people but they do not invest or take any steps for the development of this town and for the preservation of the famed spring located in the heart of the town.
If authorities won’t take immediate steps, very soon, there will be no traces of this water body left, said another local.
“We have been informing the municipal officials time and again to take immediate steps for the preservation of this spring, but their repeated pleas are going unheard,” they said.
They once again requested the district administration to look into the matter and take immediate steps for the preservation of this spring.
