Police arrests two drug peddlers in Kulgam

Srinagar: Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Saturday.

He said that a police party at a checkpoint established at Sopat Crossing intercepted a suspicious person identified as Azad Ahmad Naikoo son of Sonauallah Naikoo resident of Nussu Badragund carrying a nylon bag who after noticing the police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During search, 4.2 kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered in the bag from his possession.

Moreover, a police party of Police Station Qaimoh at a checkpoint established at Khudwani Bypass near NHW intercepted a suspicious person identified as Bilal Ahmad Allaie son of Abdul Salam Allaie resident of Hawoora. During the search, 3.5 Kgs of Poppy Straw and 01 gram of Brown Sugar like substances filled in a nylon bag were recovered from his possession.

Bothe the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective Police Stations and investigations have been initiated, the spokesman added.
