Snow clearance work going on Mughal road, traffic to ply from this week

Shopian: The snow clearance work on the historical Mughal road is going on in full swing and the road is expected to reopen for traffic in the coming week, reports said.

People from Poonch-Rajouri and Shopian said that this year there was less snowfall and clearance process must not take too much of time while demanding re-opening of the road for allowing vehicular traffic.

The said that the closure of the road badly hits businesses and other activities of residents of Shopian, Hirpora, Dubjan, Pir-Ki-Gali and Buffliaz, Thanamadi and other villages. Many people from Shopian are married in Poonch or Rajouri and vice-versa.

They said that hundreds of students from Kashmir are studying in Rajouri while hundreds of students from the Rajouri area are studying in Kashmir who too are suffering due to the closure of the road.

Notably, the historical road has got national highway status in 2016, the proposed tunnel to make the road all-weather is still nowhere in sight.

People from both sides have demanded reopening of the road as soon as possible while they have also demanded construction of the tunnel so as to make it an all weather road.

Meanwhile, an official said that snow clearance work is going on at full pace and the road is expected to be thrown open for traffic in coming week.
