Tulran Shopian residents face water shortage as overhead water canal collapses

Shopian: The residents of Tulran area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district have demanded immediate repair of a canal that collapsed a few days back.

The residents of Tulran said that the overhead water canal got damaged during recent snowfall thereby leaving the residents to face huge inconvenience.

They said that the existing water supply scheme is not enough to cater to the village and they were using water from the canal for washing clothes and other day to day purposes but they are facing huge problems now.

Mohammad Shaban, the local numberdar said that the canal got damaged seven days ago and since then they have been facing problems.

He said that locals require water for spraying pesticides in their orchard now but there are no such facilities available to them.

The locals said that they have met higher ups in this regard but nothing has been done so far.

They said for the last 25 years, they have sought the attention of higher ups for a permanent solution to this issue but nothing was done to redress their grievance.

They added that they have met DC Shopian a few days back and sought immediate repairs of the canal.
