Shopian: The residents of Choudhary Gund village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district have demanded a proper drainage system in their area.

The residents of the area which is located just around four kilometres from Shopian town, said that the village lacks proper drainage facilities due to which they are facing lot of problems.

In absence of any drainage facilities, we face a lot of problems particularly at the time of rains and snow as the inner roads get submerged, said Arshid Ahmad Dar, a local resident.

He said that in times of emergency, locals are suffering a lot and people going to Masjids to offer prayers are also facing lot of inconvenience.

The locals said despite being among the nearest village to district headquarters, it has been neglected by the authorities.

They said the sewage waters enter their lawns and orchards thereby causing damages to them as well.

They further said that in the absence of a proper drainage system, the rainwater is sometimes seeping into their residential houses and they are apprehensive that their houses would suffer damages.

Despite repeated requests to the Rural development department in this regard, nothing has been done so far, the residents alleged.

The people demanded that the concerned departments should take notice of their grievances and mitigate their sufferings.

They have sought immediate intervention from Deputy Commissioner Shopian in this regard.
