Vital bridge in Pulwama nearing completion a decade after it was damaged

Pulwama: A vital bridge that was damaged a decade back in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district is nearing completion and the development has brought cheers to the locals.

Locals from Rohmoo area of Pulwama said that the bridge was washed out during 2014 floods and since then people of the area have been facing hardships as the bridge wasn’t completed despite constrction work started on the bridge several years back.

Sareer Ahmad, a local resident said that the bridge connects Pulwama district with neighbouring Budgam district and is of vital importance but work was continuously put on halt during the last several years but since last one year work was going on in full swing to complete the bridge.

He said that many bridges which were approved after 2014 have been completed but this bridge was left incomplete due to unknown reasons

Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, another local said that the construction of the bridge is funded by world Bank and was taken up by JKPCC nine years back and work was started accordingly, however, the department failed to complete it within given time due to which locals continued to  face difficulties.

He said that the bridge connects Pulwama with Budgam district besides that it connects dozens of Pulwama villages with the district headquarters.

Locals said that they had knocked doors of authorities several times in last few years but nothing was done.

They said that soon after Dr Basharat Qayoom joined as DC Pulwama, he personally intervened  and since then work has been going on in full swing and around 99 percent work on the bridge has been completed.

They thanked him for his intervention and requested him to take steps so that the bridge can be completed as soon as possible and thrown open for public.
