Shopian residents demand widening of vital Litter-Shopian road

Shopian: Locals in south Kashmir’s Shopian district have demanded widening of the all important Litter-Shopian route on fast track basis.

They said that the narrowness of the road at most of the places often leads to traffic jams due to which commuters have to face huge hardships.

The locals said that the government must take steps to widen this important road so that the sufferings of the people come to an end.

Sameer Ahmad, a resident of Sugan village said that the government has done a good job by maintaining this vital road but the road connects hundreds of villages with each other and has a heavy rush of traffic round the clock.

He said that the road needs immediate widening for the road stretch of 22 kilometers from Litter to Shopian as narrowness of this road often leads to accidents and traffic snarls.

Shahid Hussain, a resident of Shirmal said that the road connects dozens of villages with SIDCO Lassipora near Turkwangam due to which the road remains busy all the time.

The narrowness of this vital road that is used by people of different districts to reach their destinations often leads to traffic jam and needs immediate attention of government.

Locals said that the narrowness of the road often leads to traffic jams on the route and the government must look into it to avoid traffic jams and accidents as well.

They said that despite bringing it into the notice of higher ups several times, nothing has been done on ground.

They requested higher ups to look into the matter and take immediate steps for the widening of the road.

Meanwhile an official of R&B department said that there is a proposal of the widening of the road before the government but it hasn’t been approved as yet.
