Repair work on Sangam bridge leading to traffic snarls, allege locals
Anantnag: Authorities in Sangam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have once again diverted the traffic on the national highway for want of repairing the bridge.
The resident of Sangam and daily commuters said that a bridge near Sangam is repaired after every two months and the entire traffic is diverted through other bridge leading to traffic jam for hours together.
They said that the bridge has been repaired at least 10 times in last two years and repair work has been taken up again that is fourth time in last one year
Feroz Ahmad, a local resident said that if the bridge is unsafe, then it must be dismantled and new one must be put in place.
He said that if the bridge is safe, then it must be repaired once and repairing work shouldn’t be taken up on a daily basis.
He further added that if the bridge needs repairing it should be done in one go rather than doing the job in piece meals.
Safeena, a government employee said that as traffic on both the sides has to cross through a single bridge at Sangam, it leads to long traffic jams especially in morning and evening hours and employees, students aren’t reaching the office or school on time.
Locals along with passengers said that the government must carry all repairing work in one go so that people won’t have to suffer every time.
The commuters have sought intervention of DC Anantnag in this regard and requested him to direct concerned authorities to carry out repairing work well so that people won’t have to suffer.
