Digam Shopian residents demand widening of road
Shopian: The residents of Digam village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district have demanded widening of the road leading to their village.
The village that is just around 2 kilometres away from the town and is located on the bank of rivulet Ranbiara, however, the locals are facing immense inconvenience due to the narrowness of the road, the villagers alleged.
The residents of the area said that the road is too narrow for two vehicles to pass simultaneously due to which drivers take their vehicle backwards to give side to the other one.
A leading private school of Shopian district falls on the same route due to which it becomes more difficult for the commuters during school hours to reache to their respective destinations, they said.
Myser Ahmad, a local resident said that the road leads to a famous temple where devotees often visit besides the road also leads to few tourist spots as well.
He said that the narrowness of the road is giving a tough time to all people who are visiting this area including school, temple and tourist spots.
Gulzar Ahmad Mir, another local resident said that tractors and dumpers extracting minerals from Ranbiara also use the same route that escalates the problem.
He said that the road is lying in dilapidated condition at several spots as well and needs immediate repairing.
The locals said that they have brought the issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
They requested the officials of the district administration to look into the matter at an earliest and start the widening process of this vital road so that people will experience some relief.
