Dalipora residents in Pulwama demand portable water supply, stage protest

Pulwama: Residents of Dalipora in Pulwama town of south Kashmir on Friday protested against shortage of potable water in their area.

Eyewitness and reports said that people mostly women of Dalipora area of the town took to the streets on Friday morning and staged protest against the Jal Shakti department.

The protesters appealed to higher officials of the Jal Shakti department and district administration to resolve their problem of non-availability of potable water.

The residents said that they were without water for the past 20 days and are being made to suffer by the Jal Shakti department.

Mohammad Shafi, a local resident said that they were receiving drinking water from Babgound tank but for the last two months they are without drinking water.

“We don’t receive water from Babgound due to which our women are suffering,” he said, adding that they can’t use water from other sources as it is highly polluted.

“The groundwater too can’t be used due to high iron content,” he said, adding that they have been moving from pillar to post for the past two years pleading before authorities of the Jal Shakti department for seeking a redressal but they have failed to take action,” he added.

The residents appealed to higher authorities to look into the matter and seek a solution to the issue.

Meanwhile, senior National Conference leader Assad ullah Allei expressed his concern over the non-availability of drinking water in the town. He demanded from the administration that steps should be to ensure the supply of drinking water in the town.
