DH Pora Kulgam residents decry pesky power cuts

Kulgam: The residents of Damhal Hanjipora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam  district have alleged that power development department is resorting to unscheduled power cuts in the area.

Locals from Damhal Hanjipora hamlet said that they have been receiving unscheduled power supply since long but in last few weeks unscheduled power cuts have increased in the area.

They said that they are hardly getting power supply for 6-8 hours since last one month due to which they are suffering in this winter even though the government is claiming that they are supplying 16 hour power supply to non metered areas.

Ashiq Hussian, a local social activist said that nscheduled power cuts have creating lot of issues for the residents and the student’s community is the worse hit.

He said that the government has hiked the tariff several times in the last year but no steps are being taken to ensure scheduled power supply and an improved infrastructre.

Tanveer Ahmad, another local resident said that frequent power cuts have increased in Damhal Hanjipora, Noorabad, Manzgam and dozens of adjacent areas.

He said that unscheduled power supply has affected the residents as well businessmen, students and even small unit holders.

The locals said that board exams are scheduled in coming weeks and students are preparing for the examination but in absence of scheduled power supply especially during evening hours, they are suffering.

They said that a receiving station and establishment of a new power receiving station in Manzagam was approved in 2014 but it hasn’t been set up as of now.

The locals said that the receiving station would have lessened the burden on existing station and locals would get scheduled power supply.

The locals have now requested concerned higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
