Pampore boy wins six medals including three gold in National ‘Icestock championship’
Pulwama: A boy from Pampore in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district created records in the national Icestock championship in Gulmarg by winning six medals.
Zehran Aashiq son of Ashiq Ahmad Khanday of Konibal Pampore who is a 7th standard student of Birla open minds international school has won three gold, one silver and one bronze medal in the event.
The championship was organized by the Indian Ice Stock Federation in collaboration with J&K Sports Council, J&K Tourism, and the International Olympic Association from February 9th to 11th.
Zehran Aashiq said that he is very happy for winning six medals including two gold medals in team games, one gold medal in team distance while one silver and bronze medal in team target.
He expressed gratitude to his parents, coach and school management for their support.
Zehran said that the Icestock game has very low risk of injury and the game helps in enhancing hand and eye coordination.
“I have been playing different games since years and my aim is to reach international stage and win medals for my country,” he added.
He said that when people are spending most of the time on phones besides eating unhealthy food, there is a need to engage youth in sports activities.
He added that engaging youth in sports activities will help in both physical and mental fitness besides keeping youth away from social evils.
