Unsafe Zawoora Shopian bridge puts commuters lives at risk
Shopian: A large number of people put their lives at risk by using an unsafe bridge at Zawoora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district every day, locals alleged.
They said that the bridge connects Tehsil Keller with Shopian district and rest of the world but plates on the bridge have got damaged at several spots as a result the public is facing huge inconvenience.
They said that the bridge got damaged long back but it hasn’t been repaired since then.
Asif Ahmad, a local resident said that the bridge was constructed around three decades back and it got damaged many months back.
He said that hundreds of vehicles are crossing this bridge on daily basis by putting their lives at risk.
Nazir Ahmad, another local resident said that bridge is unsafe and can prove fatal if immediate steps are not taken.
He said that it is very risky to cross the bridge but authorities have failed to take any step for repairing of the bridge.
Locals said that since last one year the government authorities were informed umpteen times but nothing has been done.
They said that the bridge is very important as it is connecting dozens of villages with each other.
They said that despite taking the issue with the higher ups and other public representatives several times, no concrete step has been taken.
The locals have once again requested the concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals won’t suffer anymore.
Meanwhile, an officials of the R&B department said that they have taken measurements of plates required and it will be repaired soon.
