Road Safety Management: MVD, HWO Bijbehara organised Awareness, Interactive session
ANANTNAG: The Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) Anantnag in collaboration with Human Welfare Organisation (HWO) Bijbehara and Zaiba Appa Educational Institute organised awareness cum interactive session on Road Safety Management for persons with disability and students enrolled here to sensitize them about the importance of obeying traffic rules and laws while being on roads.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Anantnag, Dr Mohammad Zubair Lattoo was the chief guest on the occasion. DySP Traffic Rural Anantnag, Dr Mohammad Idrees was guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering, ARTO Anantnag highlighted the importance of road safety management in the lives of common people. He threw light on underlying causes of road accidents and the need to follow the golden principles of road safety.
In his Power Point presentation, ARTO Anantnag stated that during 2023, 6298 accidents took place in Jammu and Kashmir. Out of which 730 were fatal and 5568 accidents were non fatal. During the same period 893 persons were killed and 8469 were injured in road traffic crashes in India.
This is a disturbing statistic and calls for a serious intervention by policy-planners, media and civil society to create continued awareness on road safety norms and regulations, he said.
He said that the purpose of organizing such programmes is to disseminate a message of saving life of their own and others while being on roads and to make them law-abiding citizens of the society and to save precious lives of the people which are being lost due to traffic accidents.
Later a painting competition and Tricycle rally was also organised.
