Yadikhah Kulgam residents demand potable water supply
Kulgam: The residents of Yadikhah village in DH Pora hamlet of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district have demanded potable water facility in their area.
Accusing the authorities of ignoring their plights the residents demanded immediate redressal of their genuine grievances.
The residents said that they have been facing acute shortage of water since several years while the officials are paying no heed to their sufferings.
Javaid Ahmad, a local resident said that after repeated requests to the government, a water supply scheme was constructed and pipes were also laid, however, later pipes were diverted to some other area.
“We have been demanding from the government that the pipeline must be laid again and connected with the scheme in our area so that we can get potable water, he added.
Ghulam Nabi, another local added that in absence of potable water, they are forced to drink contaminated water due to which people mainly elderly and children often fall ill.
“On the one hand the government raises slogans of ‘har gar jal’ but we are forced to consume contaminated water,” he added.
“We want potable water as most of the people of our area have fallen to various water borne diseases,” he added.
The locals said that they have brought the issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
They requested the officials to look into the matter at an earliest and take immediate steps in this regard so that they can get potable water without facing any issues.
