Bathina Pampore residents face water shortage

90 percent work on water supply scheme completed, scheme to be made functional soon: Official

Pulwama: The residents of Bathen village in Khrew Pampore hamlet of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are up in arms against the Jal Shakti Department for failing in providing adequate supply of water to the area.

The residents of the area said that they have been utilizing private vehicles to fetch water from nearby cement factories following which water is being distributed among villagers.

Shakeel Ahmad, a local resident said that they have been witnessing water crisis for the past 20 years and no steps are being taken in this regard to resolve the issue.

He said that locals have been facing inconvenience as they have to press in vehicles on their own to collect water from nearby cement factories.

The locals said that they have brought this issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.

They requested the higher ups in the district administration to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, an official of the Jal Shakti department said that ta hree stage lifting scheme is coming up in the area to provide drinking water facilities to Bathan, Baddalav and Bijnari villages of khrew area.

He added that there is no perennial source of water in these areas so the only option that is available is harnessing the ground water but bore wells too aren’t providing the adequate water needed to cater all the households

He said that the department as a long term measure has already started construction work on a mega water supply scheme and work is under progress.

He said that 90 percent work on the scheme has been already been completed and work is expected to be completed within one or two months.
