Five years on, sanctioned water supply yet to be constructed in Tral
Pulwama: The residents in Arigam village in Tral hamlet of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are facing scarcity of potable water since last several years while authorities have failed to redress the issue.
The residents of the village said that they are getting highly contaminated water from the existing water supply scheme and after hectic efforts a new water supply scheme was approved for the area in year 2018.
They said that water supply scheme was sanctioned in year 2018 that was to be constructed at an estimated cost of 3.5 crore, however, five years have passed but no progress has taken place on ground.
Ishfaq Gull, a social activist said that they are getting water directly from local water scheme without any filtration due to which the water they get is highly contaminated.
He said that a new scheme in the area was approved some years back but it has not been constructed so far.
Mohammad Ramzan, a local Auqaf member said that they are forced to consume contaminated water and as such the women folk have to travel several kilometers to get water from a local spring and that water is used for our day to day needs.
He said that they have brought this issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
The locals requested the concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest and take immediate steps for providing potable water to the area.
Meanwhile, AEE PHE Tral, Mohammad Rafiq said that the department is on it and very soon work on the project will be started.
“We are on the job and tomorrow a meeting has been convened regarding the same,” he said.
