In the past year, JK welcomed over 1.80 Crore tourists, surpassing 2 Crore visitors this year, marking a historic high since independence. These figures underscore the region’s allure for travelers.

The Mata Vaishno Shrine pilgrimage, a significant spiritual site, witnessed over 95 lakh pilgrims this year—a decade-high number. Factors such as improved accessibility and heightened awareness may have contributed to this exceptional pilgrimage turnout.

Global events, particularly the G20, played a role in boosting foreign tourist arrivals, with a remarkable 500% increase in Kashmir compared to 2022. Europe, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Middle East experienced a notable surge in tourist arrivals, highlighting emerging source markets.

In 2022, 4028 foreign guests visited, setting the baseline for subsequent substantial growth. In the first eight months of the current year, the region saw 30647 foreign arrivals, showcasing the destination’s increasing attractiveness.

Tourist interest is diversifying towards lesser-explored destinations like Bhaderwah in Jammu and Bangus in Kashmir. This shift promotes a more diverse tourism landscape and sustainable development.

The development of tourist villages in JK has been a pivotal factor in attracting visitors from across the country, contributing significantly to the overall increase in tourist footfall. This emphasizes the importance of infrastructure development in fostering tourism growth and spreading economic benefits.

In summary, the multifaceted factors contributing to the surge in tourist flow in Jammu and Kashmir include political changes, increased spiritual pilgrimages, global events, diverse emerging source markets, and the development of lesser-explored destinations and tourist villages.
