Locals say practice adopted due to non-functional segregation shed

Pulwama: Garbage is being dumped along a vital road in Urchersoo Urbagh area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district due to non-functional segregation shed and composite pits in the area, locals alleged Friday.

They said that the whole garbage is being dumped along the road close to the non-functional segregation shed.

First of all this segregation shed has been constructed close to the main road and now whole garbage is being dumped outside the shed, they said.

“Construction of segregation shed is a good step but its location is a cause of concern as garbage from whole halqa is being dumped there which lies scattered along the road,” said Irshad Ahmad, a local resident.

He further added that the scattered garbage can lead to spread of infections and poses a threat of canines as well.

Mubashir Ahmad, another local resident said that location wouldn’t have become a big concern if the shed would have been made functional and garbage cleared regularly.

“Instead of putting the shed in use, garbage is being dumped outside it that has become a problem for the whole area,” he added.

The locals said that they have brought this issue into the notice of authorities several times but no positive steps have been taken in this regard.

They have requested Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and Assistant Development Commissioner Pulwama to look into the matter at an earliest and take immediate action so that the residents can heave a sigh of relief.
