Locals demand intervention of DC, ACD Pulwama

Pulwama: Plastic Waste Management plant has been turned into a dumping site in the Newa area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district due to which people of the area have been suffering, locals said.

Locals said that Rural Development Department Pulwama constructed a segregation shed, composite pit and plastic recycle project for proper disposal of garbage in the area.

They said that segregation shed has been left defunct and all the garbage from all panchayat halqas of the block is being put in the recycle plant.

The locals said that all garbage is lying scattered near the shed attracting a huge number of dogs thereby causing inconvenience to the residents.

There is no recycling being done at the spot rather it has turned into dumping site due to people of the whole area are suffering, they added.

“During construction of the infrastructure, authorities were informed who assured that there won’t be dumped site but now there is only garbage dumped,” they added.

Sameer Ahmad, a local resident said that whole garbage of the area is being dumped here in Newa and it is lying scattered all over.

If the government is really working on Swach Bharat Mission and ‘Schweta hi sewa’ then they need to fix these issues immediately, they added.

The locals said that they have brought this issue in notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.

They requested higher ups especially DC Pulwama and ACD Pulwama to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals won’t suffer any more.
