Shopian: The residents of Dashipora village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district have complained about the lack of potable water in the area.

Locals said that for the past several years, they are without drinking water facility in the area due to which they are facing huge difficulties.

They said that in absence of drinking water facility in the area, they rely on hand pumps for their daily use of potable water but water of hand pumps has affected their health as the water is contaminated and full of impurities.

Mohammad Shaban, a local resident said that a pipeline in the village was laid several years back, however, it wasn’t enough to cater to the whole village.

He said that after repeated requests to the government a water supply scheme was sanctioned and pipeline was also laid, however, it hasn’t been connected yet.

The residents while expressing concerns over the adverse impact on daily life emphasized the importance of clean water for basic necessities such as drinking, cooking, and sanitation.

They urged the authorities to prioritize and expedite solutions to ensure every household has access to quality drinking water.

Locals said that they have brought p the issue into the notice of higher ups several times but except assurances they got nothing.

Presently, we are using water drawn from hand pumps which is highly contaminated, they said, adding, despite informing higher ups about our plight on daily basis, no attention is being provided towards us, they added.

“We have been pleading with the officials of the concerned department to solve our problems but to no avail,” the locals added further.

They requested the district officials to look into the matter at an earliest so that the local residents can heave a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, an official of the Jal Shakti department said that a new pipeline in the village has been laid already while efforts are on to connect every household soon.
