Pulwama: Five young players from south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have brought laurels to Jammu and Kashmir by winning medals at 11th National Pencak Silat Championship 2023.

Among five players, one has won silver medal while rest four have won bronze medals in different categories in the championship that was held at Patna Bihar.

These five players were identified as Zaid Bin Ayoub son of Ahmad Ayoub Kuchey resident of Frestipora Pulwama who has won silver medal in sub junior category, Imad Khursheed son of Khursheed Ahmad Gazi resident of Rahmoo Pulwama won bronze in sub junior category, Murtaza Ahmad Baba son of Mohammad Amin Baba resident of Drabgam Pulwama who has also won bronze medal.

Other two kids have won medals in pre-teen category have been identified as Afan Mushtaq son of Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Kakawring and Sibgat Ullah Bhat son of Sami ullah Bhat resident of Zagigam Pulwama.

These players said that they are very happy over winning medals at the national level.

“Winning a medal gives recognition of your art and that encourages you to work harder,” the young players said.

They claimed that they were interested in martial arts since their childhood and wanted to represent India at International level.

“I am very much interested in martial arts and have been learning different art forms from last one year,” said Zaid Bin Ayoub

He said that playing any outdoor game keeps you mentally fit and every youth must play games to stay physically and mentally fit.

Other players said playing games offers various benefits, including enhancing cognitive skills, improving problem-solving abilities, fostering social connections, and providing a source of entertainment and relaxation.

“Games can also promote strategic thinking, creativity, and teamwork, making them valuable for both personal development and social interaction,” they said.

Notably Pencak Silat is a martial art stemming from the Malay and Indonesia heritage. It translates to fighting by many techniques of self defence and has four main components  that includes mental spirit, art and culture, self defence and sport.
