ANANTNAG: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)–Anantnag, SKUAST-Kashmir Saturday organized a comprehensive Awareness-cum-Popularization Programme, dedicated to the farmers of the district.

The event, conducted under the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) project 20, focused on “Innovative Extension Approaches for Promoting Agriculture in J&K,” with a special emphasis on “Enhancing Apple Production: Comprehensive Pre and Post-Harvest Management Strategies with Value Addition Techniques.”

The chief guest for the occasion, Prof. Dil M. Makhdoomi, Director Extension at SKUAST-Kashmir, lauded the HADP project for its potential to make farming not only economically rewarding but also attractive to the youth, agricultural entrepreneurs, and farmers. He underscored the importance of technology in bridging the gap between scientists and farmers, emphasizing its pivotal role in advancing agricultural practices.

The event aimed at creating awareness and popularizing innovative apple production techniques among farmers. The focus was on comprehensive approaches to pre and post-harvest management, along with incorporating value addition techniques. These strategies are anticipated to contribute significantly to improving apple production in the region.

Prof. Makhdoomi’s endorsement of the HADP project suggests that it aligns with the broader goal of making agriculture more lucrative and appealing, particularly to younger generations and entrepreneurs interested in the agricultural sector.

The program likely provided a platform for farmers to gain valuable insights into the latest advancements and best practices in apple cultivation. The emphasis on value addition techniques also implies a holistic approach that extends beyond traditional farming methods, opening up opportunities for farmers to enhance the market value of their produce.

Overall, the Awareness-cum-Popularization Programme appears to have been a crucial initiative in fostering knowledge transfer, promoting innovation and strengthening the connection between agricultural research institutions and the farming community in Anantnag district.
